Simple step for small businesses in Melbourne and Sydney to succeed

Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” I couldn’t agree more with him. The quote is applicable in almost every situation and context – of course, design is part of it.

Simplicity is something we have been hearing a lot since a couple of years ago. Some said it started because of Apple but whatever it is, it is clearly evident that Apple’s ‘simplicity’ strategy worked. In the recent years, simplicity exists in every dimension of digital technology, so in the article, we will talk about the value of being simple and provide a few tips to stay simple.

The concept of simplicity is highly reflected on websites nowadays. There are no longer unnecessarily “fancy” content on websites or excessive animations. Many websites removed the clutters and just have the most basic form of navigations for faster loading times and usability allowing users to get what they want directly instead of making them go through the hassle of “hunting”.

A great example is Apple, who are best known for being user-friendly. On the other hand, Android generally has a steeper learning curve when using it for the first time as the greater degree for customization leads to some initial confusion. Same concept is applied to apps, many apps nowadays run even better than the desktop version websites.

Here are a few tips to keep things simple:

Consistency is a key to maintain simplicity. Choose a colour scheme, font and style of images to use to throughout all your platforms. Always have sure that the images you uses are of high quality, as pixelated images are quite a ‘turn-off’.

Please do not use the “autoplay” function if you have any audios or videos. It is definitely unpleasant to have something blasting when you open up a site. Chances are to avoid that blast, people will just close your site.

In order to speed up the page from loading, avoid using flash or excessive animations unnecessarily.

Always double check all the tabs, buttons and links on your website as well as app to make sure that they are working well.

Put all the important information first so that visitors don’t have to figure out what is your website or app is about, and design the platform with a mindset of “someone using it for the first time”.
